It has now been confirmed that the production of the electronic words edition is taking longer than anticipated. Consequently, it will not publish this month as previously announced. Our publishers, Hymns Ancient & Modern, estimate that the publication date is now likely to be late October. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

BBC celebration of Singing the Faith – 26 June

The BBC will be celebrating the forthcoming publication of the new Methodist hymn book with two programmes scheduled to broadcast on 26 June.

There is a ‘singing the faith' themed Sunday Worship service on Radio 4 at 8.10am. It will come from Eccleston village Methodist Church, Lancashire and the preacher will be the President Designate of the Methodist Conference the Revd Leo Osborn. The service will feature hymns and songs from the new collection sung by the Good News Singers. The choir, based in the Chorley and Leyland Methodist Circuit, is a large ecumenical group led by Sue and Mark Guénault.

This service will be followed by a special edition of BBC One's Songs of Praise at 5pm, filmed at Wesley Memorial Church in Oxford. The programme will reflect upon what makes a truly inspiring hymn and features interviews with some of those involved in the production of the new hymn collection – Revd Barbara Bircumshaw, Professor Peter Brophy OBE and Mr Paul Leddington-Wright. There are also interviews with our current President of the Methodist Conference, Revd Alison Tomlin, and the great contemporary hymn writer John Bell.

New publication date for music edition

We previously announced the forthcoming publication of the music edition as June 2011. However, despite the Music Resources Group and our publishing partner Hymns Ancient & Modern working around the clock, more time is needed to ensure that the book meets the high standards we know you will be anticipating.

There will still be a launch for the collection at the Methodist Conference in July, but the music edition will now publish in September. (This does not affect the words editions which will also publish in September, as originally scheduled.)

We have started a process of ensuring that everyone who needs to know about this change in publication date is informed, including all those who have already ordered the music edition. If this includes you, you will receive a letter within the next week.

We hope this change in publication date does not cause too much inconvenience or disappointment for you. If you would like to talk further about your order, you can contact Methodist Publishing on 01733 235962 or resources@methodistchurch.org.uk .
